Easily one of my favourite projects. I worked on this over a couple months and had a lot of fun messing around with it.
The arm uses lots of weird mechanisms. The elbow and forearm were heavily inspired by another robot arm made by Ian Hubert, but the mechanism for shoulder-- a weird combination of a universal joint and a hydraulically powered hinge, was entirely my own design. The second video gives you a better look at how it operates.
Each individual piece of the arm was separately modelled one by one, which took a very long time, but was worth it. I gave the arm an intentionally weird, mismatched look, as if someone had built it out of junk they had found in their shed.
Around half of the arm was textured procedurally with Blender's shader editor and the other half used images from Textures.com.
